Chillwave Wednesday XXIX
Chillwave Wednesday: a semi-weekly shortlist of chill music around the internet. This week features a few more well known artist than usual including Ludacris, Ellie Goulding, Moby and Angel Haze. Plus some remixes from Washed Out and Weval. Get your chillwave on!
Ludacris – Party Girls (ft. Wiz Khalifa, Jeremih & Cashmere Cat)
Remember that Danish pop group Aqua? Of course you do. “I’m a barbie girl, in a barbie world.” I bet you’d wish you’d never hear that song again. And I would increase that bet if I were to tell you that they would inspire the likes of Ludacris and Wiz Khalifa to create a track. This party girl twist on the original barbie girl is fucking brilliant.
Ellie Goulding – Life Round Here (Feat. Angel Haze)
Moby – Almost Home (Washed Out Remix)
Washed Out remixes “Almost Home” from Moby’s latest album Innocents. The combination of Washed Out’s rework and the vocals from Damien Jurado make this track pretty solid. Even the way Moby conceptualized the song is pretty interesting saying: “Originally ‘Almost Home’ was a fully finished song, but I love Damien’s approach to melody and lyrics, so I gave it to him as an instrumental. What he did was much better than anything I’d come up with.” And that collaboration wouldn’t have been possible without the radio, surprisingly enough. “One thing that makes L.A. great is you live in your cars, so you listen to a lot of radio; there, public radio stations like KXLU and KCRW are actually valid, big stations that people listen to. One day, I was listening to ‘Morning Becomes Eclectic’ on KCRW, and I heard a Damien Jurado song. I simply fell in love with his voice – this most beautiful, vulnerable, pristine, angelic voice.” Almost Home is due to drop on 24th February via Little Idiot.
KAASI – Caroline Street
David Douglas – Higher (Weval Remix)
Absolutely love David Douglas’s debut EP Royal Horticultural Society which was released in 2012. So very excited to hear “Higher,” the first single off his new full-length album due to release later this year. And just last week he released a four track EP for “Higher” with remixes from Weval, Throwing Snow, and Mattheis.
Seinabo Sey – Younger (Kygo Remix)
