December’s Heavy Rotation

Hahahaha, the last heavy rotation post I put up in September I hadn’t posted in over a week, and I was pulling a few late nights at work. Had the same kind of week this week, and what do you know? I come up with another post about what has been on heavy rotation on my iPod. I suppose it’s because I have no time to look for new music.

In any case, on heavy rotation for December I’ve got a lot of that special genre that mixes hip-hop and rock which is being pioneered by groups such as Pretty Lights and DJ Zebra. For some reason there is a bunch of this kind of stuff on ski and snowboard movies (which I’ve also been watching a lot of), and I dig it. Here’s the run down:

Delinquent Habits – Return of the Tres

Let’s start off with some good ol Hip Hop from Delinquent Habits and bring some of the horn section back into your ear. Add Spanish swagger, repeat.

This song is fucking brilliant! I know it’s over a year old, and I stopped listening to it for a while, but it’s been on heavy rotation for like the last three months for me. Def. playing this at whatever new years party I end up at. Eric Clapton and The Allman Brothers fit together fucking perfectly! and with Pretty Lights clean well produced bass to drop the floor out underneath you…… and the I’m sure you caught the wink to New Years with the song selection.

The Neptunes can also put together a really tightly produced track. Mix them in with the unsteady swagger step Mic Jagger brings and it balances out perfectly

Groove Armada – Paper Romance

This song has always been of a departure from the Groove Armada I know and have seen live, but that huge sounding bassline is unmistakably theirs.

Digitalism – Blitz

Everyone I show this track to hates it. “Oh Digitalism, I like them, but this song sucks,” they’ll say. I don’t know. I have to disagree. That 8-bit cascade sound with a discoesque snare walk, and a big pin-stripe wearin’ bassline with a touch of piano key…. it’s super fucking catchy.
