El Guincho
This video is pretty awesome. I don’t know what else to say. hmmm. Oh, I know. The song is pretty awesome too. Who is El Guincho? I’m embarrassed to say that I’ve never heard of him, but I will tell you that after I did a little research, I found that he is from Barcelona (thanks to roughtrade), his real name is Pablo Díaz-Reixa (thanks to Wikipedia), and his music sounds like space-aged Tropicalia rock and roll (thanks to my ear).
Although he is from Barcelona, he grew up in the canary islands, which are Spanish islands off the coast of Africa. So on top of being influenced by African music and culture, it has a lot of South American immigrants. This all makes for a strong island influenced sound mixed with all the flavors of Latin America and Spain.
