Gov’s Ball 2012

Governor’s Ball is upon us New York City. The Ball will kick off this Saturday, June 23rd on Randall’s Island and it is packed with some amazing sets (none of which overlap!!) Beck and Passion Pit return to NYC for the first time in a few years, Fiona Apple will make her first major NYC appearance in over 7 years, and New York heros Armand Van Helden and A-Trak will play their first NYC show ever as Duck Sauce. Check out the full schedule on the Governor’s Ball lineup page.

We’ve decided to make a list of the 5 must-see bands at this year’s Governor’s Ball to help you navigate the huge line-up. It seems like the Hype Machine stage will own this year, so you should get there early and set up camp in front of the north stage.

Here are The New LoFi’s 5 must-see picks for Governor’s Ball

1. Major Lazer – Get Free (Andy C Remix)

Ok, so I’ll admit, I’ve been a huge Diplo supporter from the beginning, so this might be a bit of a skewed opinion but I’m going to say that Major Lazer is going to put on one hell of a set on Saturday in the sun. To prove it, here is a remix of “Get Free” …the first single off Major Lazer’s upcoming album, “Major Lazer Frees The Universe.”

2. Passion Pit – Take A Walk (Peking Duk Remix)

Passion Pit is planning on releasing their upcoming album “Gossamer” this July, so this set will most likely give fans an early listen to their new material. Passion Pit headlines the Hype Machine stage on Saturday and there is little to no chance that this set will have you dancing your face off. Definitely a must-see.

3. Art vs. Science – Magic Fountain (Kissy Sell Out’s remix, Dark Crystal version)

This is a Kissy Sell Out remix of Art vs. Science’s hit single “Magic Fountain.” I saw Art vs. Science for the first time last year during CMJ and the absolutely blew my socks off. And although I heard this track before going to the show, and was excited to hear it come on, their entire set was solid. They are the kick-off act for the Hype Machine stage on Saturday, so I’m suggesting you get there for early doors at 12:00 noon to catch these guys play. You won’t regret it.

4. Chromeo – Tenderoni (Codes Remix)

This was quite an easy pick. C’mon, it’s Chromeo… you know they’ll deliver the goods.

5. Fiona Apple – Every Single Night

“Every Single Night” is the first single off of Fiona Apple’s new album which is extravagantly titled: “The Idler Wheel Is Wiser Than the Driver of the Screw and Whipping Cords Will Serve You More Than Ropes Will Ever Do.” Ok, so I know what you are thinking… “what’s with that lengthy title… and do you really want me to see Fiona Apple at Gov’s Ball???” The answer is “I Don’t Know” and “Yes!” respectively. She plays Sunday at 6:20pm on the Hype Machine stage and is followed by Modest Mouse and Beck. It’s the perfect way to end the Ball.
