Imbuwa combines ambient deep house melodies with Afro house on his debut single “Shangwe”

Rooted in African heritage, Imbuwa integrates traditional rhythms and live instrumentation that unfolds in a way that uniquely combines ambient electronic with Afro house. His new single, “Shangwe,” represents his debut commercial release as a producer, but Imbuwa is far from a newcomer to the music scene. With a career spanning over a decade.

In the Subiya language, “Shangwe” means “to show gratitude,” and that’s the core emotion driving this track. “‘Shangwe’ is a musical expression of thankfulness,” explains Imbuwa when talking about his new single. “[It is about] reflecting on life’s journeys and the moments that fill us with a sense of appreciation. It celebrates the joy of acknowledging the people, experiences, and victories that shape who we are.”

Born in Nambia in 1992, Imbuwa crafts a sound that is deeply influenced by his life experiences and travels. His aim is to blend the abstract sounds and melodies of deep house with the percussion and basslines of hip-hop and an ear to traditional rhythms and instrumentation.

“For me, it has always been about self-expression at the highest standard,” says Imbuwa. “I want fellow Namibians to feel inspired and help bridge the gap between Namibia and the rest of the world. We deserve to be up there.”
