Jamie XX Gil Scott Heron Remixes

Even though it was only this past February, it seems like an eternity ago that the Gil Scott-Heron album I’m New Here came out. I’m New Here was the first album in 13 years from the man many consider the Godfather of Hip Hop. In 1971 he laid out the blueprint for the whole rap genre with his slinky, bad-as-fuck anthem “The Revolution Would Not Be Televised” where the then 23 year old spoken word poet dismantled the entire 70s culture in 3 minutes and 6 seconds.

Less than a year after the release of I’m New Here, Jaimie XX (Jaimie Smith from The XX) announced that he’s releasing a 13 track LP called We’re Here Now, remixing Scott-Heron’s “come back” album. The Jaime XX remix of “New York is Killing Me” is the first single from the upcoming album We’re New Here, due out in February 2011. Watch the new video above, then check out “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” and the original version of “NY Is Killing Me” below.
