Maribou State – The Clown ft. Pedestrian
It’s been a long time since I’ve been as excited for a bands debut album as I am for the upcoming Portraits from UK based Maribou State. It’s been a couple of years since my interest was piqued by their excellent re-working of Fatboy Slim’s Praise You, and their progression from that starting point has been beautiful both in its authenticity and the otherworldly rapture with which they embue their tracks. Their music has a idyllic, paradisal quality, a soundtrack to an ineffable state of grace, heavenly and celestial, all harp glissandos and distant cries of cherubim and seraphim.
Listening to their latest release, featuring vocals from Pedestrian, is an almost organic experience. Atmospheric dance that is intricate and haunting, pounding yet soft piano chords combined with a driving house beat, deliver a track that is infinitely euphoric and rapturous. Another excellent release from a band quickly becoming one of my favourites.
