The New LoFi – Mix Tape 3 (4.17.10)

I’m really digging todays mix. I found most of these bands today; some at the local record store, some on XM Radio when I borrowed my friends car, show while Shazaming the hell out of the airwaves when getting a hair cut and others just reading other blogs. A good number of the bands on this mix are also from this years Coachella lineup. I’m trying to keep all of the music on these mix tapes pretty diverse and this one is no different . . . .

El Ten Eleven is an LA based duo known for combining a guitar/bass doubleneck with lots of looping, effects pedals and acoustic/electric drumming to create atmospheric post rock soundscapes.

The Dum Dum Girls, also LA based, have an airy, Gidgetesque vintage cool surf rock sound, with poppy hooks and dreamy harmonies.

Gossip, originally from Arkansas are now based in Portland. They are said to be influenced by post-punk bands like Birthday Party and Siouxsie And The Banshees but also meld dance and hip-hop in pretty seamlessly. They’ve been described as “a soul or gospel” voice over a funky punk soundtrack.

“Electro Movimiento” is a track by the Puerto Rican 6 time Latin Grammy winning duo Calle 13. Their sound is a combination of hip hop, reggaetón, jazz, bossa nova, salsa, cumbia, tango, electronica, pop and rock.
