Timothy and the Apocalypse turns a journey through Japan into cinematic electronica on new single “Serial Admirer”

Australian producer Timothy Poulton (aka Timothy and the Apocalypse), returns with his new single “Serial Admirer.” It’s a cinematic electronic track shaped by a journey through Japan.

The track takes its cues from two very different landscapes: the constant motion of Tokyo, and the stillness of a misty morning at Lake Ashi beneath Mount Fuji. Rather than leaning on obvious musical signifiers, Poulton translates those impressions into atmosphere. Tokyo becomes rhythm, repetition, and forward momentum, while Hakone opens into space, water, and silence. That contrast fits neatly into the world Poulton has been building since 2021. A world where downtempo, trip-hop, and ambient electronics blur into something widescreen and immersive.

“Serial Admirer” feels especially visual, which makes sense given Poulton’s parallel work as a landscape photographer. The accompanying artwork was created from his own photographs of the torii gate at Lake Ashi, connecting the track’s sound and imagery back to the same memory.
