Chambacu, Chambacu

My favorite genre of music might be Cumbia. Which is strange now that I think about it, since I don’t think I’ve ever posted any Cumbia on The New LoFi. It’s like my soul music. Something about the rhythm, the delicate melodies, the steady pace of the güiro… it just all sounds as natural as a heart beat to me.

So I thought it might be time to remedy the lack of Cumbia on the site. If you’ve ever been to Colombia, especially the northern part of the country, you’ve probably heard the song “Chambacu” in some shape or form. It’s like the Cumbia folk song. I’ve heard dozens of bands play their own flavor of the song. It’s a classic.

Here we’ve got two different versions of the track. Aurita Castillo y Su Conjunto puts together something more in the vein of traditional Cumbia, while Schlachthofbronx gives us the other end of the spectrum with a fast pase, almost Reggaeton, twist. (It might sound familiar if you’ve ever seen the ridiculous dancing dog video on YouTube).
