Lana Del Rey
This video is so beautiful, nostalgic and haunting… i guess it sort of wraps up my mood perfectly today.
With a title like “Video Games,” the single for Lana Del Ray’s upcoming double-sided single sounds pretty light hearted. And indeed the video doesn’t seem to be heavy handed either. At first watch anyway.
But with a lot of things that are beautiful, haunting, or both, I become obsessively attracted to it.. It helps that Lana Del Rey (aka Lizzy Grant) is absolutely gorgeous, with that whiskey soaked swagger, and the slightly western twang in her voice… but there is something about the message of the song that just has me thinking.
It’s about the games we play with our loved ones, and taking the people we are close to for granted at all the wrong times. Something we are all guilty of at some point. It’s that moment when you know you are wrong but you just don’t know how to stop yourself and tell them you love them.
Or maybe it’s about doing everything you can to show someone you love them, but they just don’t notice. You fall in love with the right person at the wrong time, and there is nothing you can do. Can love even be love if it’s not mutual? Is it just lust then, or misguided effection?
but who knows, maybe the song is just about video games.
