Nick Marks reframes 1950s energy through a modern beatmaking lens with his new single “Champagne Flowers”
Our favorite Australian producer in New York is at it again. Nick Marks has just released his new single, “Champagne Flowers” and it conjures up 1950s jazz through a modern beatmaking lens.
Marks first came onto our radar in 2023 with his release of Cinematic Chormatics Vol. 1 where he takes beatmaking to orchestral heights. But this orchestra is composed of synths and drums and Marks is the conductor: layering and building the tracks to create a jazz movie in your mind.
For “Champagne Flowers” returns to his hip hop roots with a snappy beat complimented (what is becoming) his signature horn section. The song pairs Nick’s plush jazz-soul textures with Doron Lev’s studybeats groove. The arrangement blooms gradually to give the track a conversational energy while leaving room for the instrumental details to sparkle. Its strongest quality is atmosphere: smooth without becoming background music, stylish without feeling overproduced. Horns, keys, and rhythm-section create a late-night, celebratory mood that suits the title perfectly.
