World Brain blurs the line between human and machine on “Test Screen”

Brussels-based producer Lucas Chantre (aka Lucas Ufo, aka World Brain) has always been fascinated by the strange space between human feeling and machine logic. Under his World Brain moniker, he turns that tension into playful, off-kilter electronic pop that feels like a half-remembered computer game with a pulse.

His latest single, “Test Screen,” opens the new WORLD VS BRAIN EP with a wonderfully odd instrumental detour. Pixelated, chopped-up vocal samples dart around a patchwork of elastic rhythms, quirky orchestral flourishes, and synth textures that seem to flicker in and out of focus. It’s nostalgic without sounding retro, futuristic without losing its sense of humour.

That balance runs throughout WORLD VS BRAIN, a record that explores our increasingly virtual lives without surrendering to cold digital cynicism. Elsewhere, Chantre moves between satire, tender songwriting, and warped soundtrack-like experiments, but “Test Screen” sets the tone before a single proper lyric arrives.

There’s something charmingly human about its imperfections…. It’s like the soundtrack to a forgotten operating system has suddenly developed a personality. Strange, playful, and quietly poignant: World Brain makes the machine feel alive once again.
