Yahoo Live! Presents: The Jayhawks

Reunited and they sound so good, one of the Twin city’s most influential alternative bands is back together and touring. I was fortunate enough to catch The Jayhawks on the final night of the Calgary Folk Fest this year, and they quickly became one of my favorite sets of the festival. After a brief hiatus, Gary Louris and The Jayhawks have remastered a trio of albums; Sound of Lies (1997), Smile (2000) and Rainy Day Music (2003), all chock full of bonus material and new notes. The three albums represent a very eclectic mix of emotional roots-country melodies to downright pop Americana, and it was an absolute pleasure to witness music that hadn’t been played in nearly a decade.

Gary Louris says: We have T-shirts!

Fortunately thanks to the folks over at Yahoo! Live, you can relive my experience and stream the entire Jayhawks performance. If you live in the Twin Cities area, tickets are still available for the show at the legendary First Avenue and the 7th St Entry in the heart of Minneapolis. But for the rest of us, you can dive into the performance via Yahoo’s live stream in three days time.
