Matt Wilde continues to find urgency in the everyday
Matt Wilde’s new single “Everyday Words” gives us another taste of what’s to come on his upcoming record, Find a Way (due out October 10). The album is a labour of love, recorded alongside trumpeter Aaron Wood. Together they weave acoustic warmth with modern grit — the brassy, human breath of the trumpet cutting across intricately programmed drums that snap and shuffle in unexpected places.
It’s that blend — raw yet forward-thinking — that helps Wilde’s music continue to feel so fresh. There’s a nod to the jazz greats in the phrasing of the piano and trumpet, but also a head-nod beat that connects to contemporary hip hop and electronic production.
“Everyday Words” feels like a conversation you didn’t know you needed to hear — a reminder that the most common things, like the words we use every day, can hold surprising urgency and beauty.
