Bassnectar’s New Album: Wildstyle
Bassnectar’s new album: Wildstyle is set to release next Tuesday, October 19th. Bassnectar has always been on my radar, but I never sat down and really gave one of his albums a listen. I didn’t even know he released albums. I thought he just produced one-off remixes. Of course I was wrong.
The “he” is Lorin Ashton, aka Bassnectar. He describes his music (if you haven’t heard it) as ‘omnitempo maximalism.’ To me this just means hybrid electronica. hahah, ok, that doesn’t make it any clearer, I’m sure. Basically his music lives in the electronic category, but it isn’t confined to it. His music is heavily influenced by dubstep and wobbly dirty sounding basslines, but he steps out and mixes unexpected genres like metal and pop as well. His release of Magical World featuring Nelly Furtado or the Deftones remix of ‘Prince” are good examples of this.
