Brian J. Gitkin returns to Wonderwheel Recordings with a ten track album entitled “Golden Age”
It’s rare that you come across an artist or an album that takes inspiration from such a wide range of genres. That’s what Brooklyn-born, New Orleans-based guitarist and producer, Brian J. Gitkin has done on his new ten-track album, Golden Age. Known simply as Gitkin, Brian J’s new album captures the feeling of adventure and mystery with a little humor.
Songs like “High Noon,” “The Ninth Ward,” and “Delta Music” blend that classic shuffling New Orleans rhythm with the slide guitar sound of the Wild Wild West. Then you take a track like “El Gran Camino” which has this swaggering ambient psychedelic quality to it. Or mix that New Orleans sound with a bit of cumbia to get “Cumbia-ya.” Then get transported to some kung fu grooves with a track like “The One.” What hold the album together is the Gitkin’s lyrical guitar-led sound, but the album effortlessly traverses place and time to explore the tapestry of soulful global music traditions.
My favorite songs on the album at the moment are “Tall Oaks Drive,” “The One,” “Go Time,” and “El Gran Camino.” Listen to a couple of them below. If you like what you hear, head over to the Brooklyn-based record label, Wonderwheel Recordings to pick up a vinyl copy of Golden Age (out today).
