Finnish producer, Viila, creates some melancholic electronic music that you can cry to on the dance floor
Jaakko Mäkeläinen is the man behind the Finnish electronic act, Viila. Started in 2023, Jaakko set out to create indie electronic that is meant for dark rooms and late-night drives. His music combines melancholic songwriting with clattering club sounds.
For Viila’s third single, “A1,” Jaakko folds evolves his sound to be more dancefloor ready. “I wanted to take Viila’s music to a more dancy or DJ-friendly direction,” explains Jaakko when talking about the new single. “[A1 has] wobbling basslines and groovy drum tracks, but it doesn’t lose the melancholic touch. A friend of mine described this as being music you can cry to on the dancefloor and I really like that.”
To accompany the new single, Jaakko teamed up with DEED Creative to create a music video starring Salif Doumbouya and Vitalii Frusov.
“The song is named after my brother’s car,” continues Jaakko when describing the new video. “The video portrays the reunion of two old friends as the spend the night together from sunset to sunrise. The details of their relationship and history are left to the viewer’s interpretation. I like when music and films are like that — as if you can’t quite understand the language or something is missing, making you piece things together and wonder what the full story is.”
