British producer, Inwards, returns with a playfully new ambient track underpinned by deep basslines

Inwards is the moniker for British producer Kristian Shelley. He’s back this month with his playfully melodies and deep basslines that draw on found sounds, modular synths, and a selection of electronic and acoustic instruments. Along the way he has amassed an archive of unreleased recordings, and it’s from this vault that he draws inspiration for his new album. He’s unearthed nine pieces of music which had been “left behind” to build the new album.

“This pair of tracks is about luck and misfortune”, says Shelley, when talking about his new EP, When It Rains, It Pours. “I started thinking about the whole concept of luck – is it subjective? Is it different, depending on what you believe in?”

Shelley took an online deep dive to see what the internet had to say about luck and fortune. Taking snippets from here, there and everywhere, and chopping them up into phrases instinctively. He arrived at the following collage of text which could be seen as a companion piece to the mood and themes in “Moonscape” — a seemingly abstract piece of music.

It is lucky to expose your newborn to the waxing Moon,” continues Shelley. “It will give the baby strength. It’s lucky to move into a new house during the new Moon; prosperity will increase as the Moon waxes. It makes sense to try to maximise your luck during this time. To have the best luck during the full moon, make sure to set the right intentions, find the best mindset and focus. However sleeping in the light of the full moon will destroy your face. It is lucky to hold a moonscape in your mouth at the full Moon; it will reveal the future. Beware though, the moon can bring bad luck too. DO NOT under any circumstances point at the new Moon or view any Moon over your shoulder.”

“Moonscape” sets the scene for the next stage of Shelley’s ongoing series of releases. Keep an ear out for more music to come this year and beyond.
