Portland-based producer Rudy Klobas sends us floating with some beautifully atmospheric jazz

This month Rudy Klobas (aka POSY) helps us explore the world between study beats and atmospheric jazz. The ten new tracks that Rudy has added to the mix this month include the new POSY single, “Mount Yufu,” which features LA-based multi-instrumentalist, Seb Zillner. The track features an understated acoustic guitar arrangement that floats beside a gorgeous whispering flute delivered by Seb Zillner. That really sets the tone for the rest of the playlist — beautiful atmospheric jazz that sees instruments weaving in and out over a more percussive study beat foundation.

Originally trained on classical guitar, Klobas gradually taught himself piano, bass, and drums and began writing and recording his first songs on a four-track cassette recorder. His music is densely layered, but maintains an element of simplicity that ultimately leaves one feeling relaxed.

If this is your first time listening to the Jazz Underground, it’s a monthly feature where we enlist producers and artists who are pushing the boundaries of what jazz to curate where the genre is headed. The idea is to change the perception of the genre’s rotten public image — a genre that can sometimes be stuck in the past rather than something that is always evolving and growing. Each month we invite a new resident artist to contribute and curate the playlist to reflect what jazz sounds like today.

Have a listen to the playlist below, and if you like what you hear, make sure to follow the Jazz Underground playlist on Spotify.
