Kayle Butler teams up with Mel Blue to create indie electronic with nostalgic soul
About a year ago (almost to the week), I got turned onto this Sydney-based 3-piece electronic outfit called Mel Blue. Their track, “2 Go” featured on the April 2025 edition of Heavy Rotation and it was a dizzying indie-electronic banger.
Last week their name came up again, but this time it was in colaboration with another Australian songwriter / producer called Kayle Butler who performs under the moniker JVLY (pronounced “JULY”). His music is a chilled out version of Neil Frances with a heavy does of soul. So I was really interested to hear what would happen when Mel Blue and JVLY put their music together.
The track is called “South” and the rework that Mel Blue puts on the original creates a nostalgic slow-burner through it’s vibey synths and fuzzed out percussion.
Have a listen to both versions below and if you like what you hear, keep an ear out for JVLY’s upcoming EP entitled SUNDERLUXE later this year.
