Sasquatch 2014: Festival Preview
Fingers still green from the last-minute tye-dyeathon of the previous evening, I’ve been frantically screaming around the city in my midnight blue 80’s circa Crown Victoria, desperately piecing together every last morsel and crumb needed for our departure to the Gorge. This year, we decided to roll in style. After slumming it with very few supplies other than a few beers and a suitcase full of wet socks, seven of us exuberant youth have gone all-in on a 30 foot RV. I’ll be channeling the ghost of my grandfather, a lifelong truck driver, as we careen through the Rocky Mountains down south of the border. The excitement is overwhelming, and that’s not even considering the sheer cavalcade of incredible music set to hit the stage this weekend. From Queens of the Stone Age and Outkast to personal favorites Washed Out, Chet Faker and BANKS, the line-up is a solid mix of old-school chart toppers (like the Violent Femmes) to blogosphere heavyweights Chance the Rapper, Tyler the Creator and more. At any given moment on any given stage, Sasquatch is sure to impress, while the campground is a raucous bottomless-pit of insanity; beer pong at all hours, florescent costumes and copious amounts of drugs, sex, and the American dream.
Just yesterday I pieced together a makeshift Hunter S. Thompson outfit, and undoubtedly I’ll be channeling the spirit of the late and great journalist himself. This is exactly the kind of weird he’d find himself tied up in, and
“When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro”
Here’s just a smidgen of the talent set to hit the stage this weekend. So drink in these tunes and wish me luck, the big bus leaves in two hours, and when it comes back I might not be the same.
