Courtney Barnett

My best bud in Australia just passed me this video from Melbourne-based singer / songwriter Courtney Barnett (thanks Katie J). It’s the video for “Avant Gardener” …the lead single off Courtney Barnett’s latest EP. It tells the story of an anaphylactic panic-attack in the midst of an Australian heatwave and it’s filmed with a strong nod to Wes Anderson style movies (which gives it a massive check mark in my book).

The song itself is clever like a Wes Anderson movie too. Subtle little lines like “The paramedic thinks I’m clever cos I play guitar, I think she’s clever cos she stops people dying” are sprinkled all over the track.

Her first EP entitled I’ve Got A Friend Called Emily Ferris was released in 2012 to glowing reviews around Australia. That quickly snowballed into International critical acclaim in 2013 with her second EP How To Carve A Carrot Into A Rose. Courtney combined these two releases into one and called it The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas. …so check out the single below and go out and buy yourself The Double EP from Milk!
