Kiesza – Hideaway

[youtuber youtube=’http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESXgJ9-H-2U’]

Just came across the video for Kiesza’s “Hideaway” which was set on the streets of Williamsburg Brooklyn. I’ve walked past this corner on N12th everyday for almost 10 years …. why couldn’t I have walked past while they were filming this video?! The good news is… a TNLF sticker made it into the video (see below).

Self-promotion aside, Kiesza has a pretty amazing story. Besides a musician, Kiesza is a trained ballerina and a former tall-ship sailor. The army almost recruited her to become a sniper at one point. so basically, she’s hardcore.

Originally from Alberta Canada she now lives in New York to focus on her music career. The city she is from in Canada (Calgary) is well known for its folk scene and you can definitely hear the influence in her earlier work, but she is by no means glued to one genre; she continues to expand her sound with each single.

“Hideaway” was recorded with Rami Samir Afuni, her recording partner, on his record label Lokal Legend. Amazingly, the track was laid down in just one hour and the video was shot in one-take on the streets of Brooklyn.
