San Francisco band, The Carrots, finds the space between spsychedelic surf rock and indie groove on their new album, “Potion”

Get ready for some far-out psych rock vibes on the new album from San Francisco four-piece band, The Carrots. The lead single off the album is called “Barrel” and it mixes a bit of desert rock with a bit of surf rock to create a moody, reverb-drenched track that is full of fun hooks and double guitar harmonies all the way to its fiery finish. For the band, “Barrel” was inspired by watching huge winter swells wash up on the dunes at Ocean Beach in San Francisco.

The band started when friends, Campbell (guitar) and Garrett (mandolin) got together to create some kaleidoscopic patio jazz back in 2016. The band name is a play on their names (Campbell + Garrett = Carrot). Chris Grant (drums) and Chris Farwell (bass) joined a few years later to release their EP “Say Yeah” — a record that cultivated an instrumental sound somewhere between the desert and the beach. A sound that combines swirls of surf rock, groove, and psychedelic jazz into something all its own.

“Barrel,” is the ‘surfiest’ track on their new full length album Potion. If you are into bands like Khruangbin, The Mattson 2, or Tommy Guerrero, you are going to like this new album. It is a fantastic combination of ‘feel good’ and ‘out there’ vibes. And to make it even more special, the album is now available as a one-time run of 150 deluxe 12″ LPs, all pressed on a mix of color and color swirl vinyl. Head over to The Carrots Bandcamp page to purchase a copy of Potion on vinyl.
