Brooklyn duo, Silver Liz, find clarity in the haze with new single “Dream More Vivid”

“Dream More Vivid” is the lead single off of the upcoming Silver Liz album called III (and yes, it is their third full-length album). Named after an Andy Warhol painting, Silver Liz first broke through with their dreamy, jangle-pop debut I Can Feel The Weight and its follow-up It Is Lighter Than You Think. I actually first came across their music in 2020 during lockdown with one of their more dancy shoegaze singles, “There’s No Need.”

Ever since then, the Brooklyn duo have been quietly becoming one of the most intriguing forces in the indie underground. The real-life couple, Carrie and Matt Wagner, first met in a college practice room, bonding over The Strokes and a mutual obsession with sound. Years later, after stints in Chicago and Brooklyn, they’ve arrived at their most personal and inventive record yet: III.

Written across voice memos and late-night living room sessions, III captures the dislocation and longing of early adulthood. “We started writing after moving from Chicago to Brooklyn,” Matt recalls. “It felt like everyone else was leaving just as we were arriving.”

The new single, “Dream More Vivid” is a bittersweet blend of trip-hop indie pop anchored by heavy shoegaze guitars, with a kaleidoscope of textures at the forefront.

“The track is one of the rare songs we’ve written that originated from a jam in our apartment,” explains Carrie. “Most of the time I will just send Matt iPhone voice memo demos of songs even though we are in the same apartment. But when he added those guitar chords to the opening synth line I came up with, we just knew we had something.”

Matt adds: “on this track, and throughout the album in general, I wanted the production to constantly flow through disparate spaces and sounds. We really embraced a maximalist approach. It is hard to know when to stop adding ideas. Whenever Carrie says there is too much going on, I trust it is time to stop.”
