Jazz, soul, and synths come together on the new Fault Line Trio single, “In2it”
Hailing from San Francisco, Fault Line Trio has been quietly pushing jazz into new terrain since forming in 2018. Led by keyboardist and trumpeter Jay Sanders, with Lukas Vesely on bass and Brian Fishler behind the kit, the group is all about sophisticated grooves that live somewhere between jazz and soul. They make music that’s smart but unpretentious — the kind of sound that could just as easily soundtrack a rainy night drive as a rooftop after-party.
The title track off the trio’s debut album, In2it, is a four-minute thumpy groove that feels like Roy Hargrove just wandered into a Herbie Hancock jam session. It’s a head-nodder with layered synths stacking over tight drum breaks, with a muted trumpet line that cuts through the haze like neon light in the fog. There’s a swagger to it, but also a kind of cerebral calm. It’s the kind of track that makes you lean back, close your eyes, and catch the rhythm beneath the rhythm.
Stream it, turn it up, and get in2it.
