Marvill Martin creates late-night hip hop with a classical soul on his new album
There is a particular kind of music made for the hours after midnight. A sound that comes to life when the city has quieted down, the lights have softened, and every bassline feels a little more cinematic. CHILLED VIOLIN 2, the new album from violinist and producer Marvill Martin (aka Marvillous Beats) lives comfortably in that space.
The album builds a bridge between two worlds that rarely meet this naturally. On one side, there is the dusty swing and head-nodding weight of underground hip-hop. On the other, the precision and emotional pull of classical arrangement. That mood is grounded by soulful Afro-Funk rhythms and driving bass guitar, keeping the project moving even when the violin drifts into more reflective territory.
The strongest moments come from the tension between refinement and grit. A polished violin phrase might float above a cracked snare, while a silky bassline pulls an otherwise delicate arrangement back toward the pavement. Those contrasts give the record its identity: luxurious without losing its edge, and nostalgic without sounding like a museum piece.
