Your LoFix #16 – sax & chill

Welcome to The LoFix, a column to share some LoFi & Chill Hop that I’ve recently discovered and love. Giving you that fix of chill; something we all need regularly. And if you’re feeling the tracks, do share them with your friends.

In the sixteenth edition of the series I’ve picked some polished productions in a chilled sax setting with boom bap or jazzy drums for the perfect backdrops.

I can’t wait to go crate digging around the London vinyl shops, finding gems like Jazzy Conscience makes you fall in love with records all over again and appreciate the art they’ve created. A stripped back drum pattern and sax is all you need to kick off the groove and the subtle ‘California love’ style synth coming through in the second part of the song gives it a golden era switch up. Not much is out there on the Crate Diggers crew but all you need to hear is their music to enjoy them!

Coming from Cologne, Flitz&Suppe have been gracing our ears with their incredible beats since 2010 and are true pioneers of the chilled music scene. Driven by the fat kick that comes in after the warm atmospheric tones to invite you into the ‘Old E’ song, which doesn’t rush the listener and brings each sound or vocal sample in at the perfect moment.

A thing of Beauty from damaa.beats & Otis Ubaka with their laid back sax waltz vibe. Letting the Otis’ horn lead the flow and melody of the song, I find myself gently floating away long with each note they play and damaa.beats soft drums. A fine collaboration between the German producer and London instrumentalist.

Although the song doesn’t ooze bright summer tones, this for me is that perfect sundown music when lighting one up and thinking about how good life is. The heavy beat hits nicely through out and each sound compliments the boom bap groove in it’s own charm. Another gem from Emapea who I could happily listen to all day with their crisp instrumentals.

Taken from Chilling At Moe’s Farm album is Organic Trees, that eases you into the release with its smooth piano melodies to fill out the track for the sax to drop in and out keeping you locked in. Ol Wallace is only about Organic Trees and a perfect collaboration with Moe’s Organic CBD Farm based out of Austria with their own strain to smoke whilst listening.
