The aim of this playlist is to try and change the perception of jazz’s rotten public image — an often over-intellectualized, eat-your-vegetables idea of improvisational music. This is not your grandfathers jazz. This is an ever-evolving genre of music that has its roots in that great American tradition. It isn’t trying to mimic ages past. It isn’t trying to stand still inside of a musical paradigm. This is the Jazz Underground.
