The Crowd’s new EP uses indie vocals and orchestral instrumentals to create something gorgeous

Just had a couple of new singles from a duo called The Crowd come across my desk last week and I was pleasantly stopped in my tracks. The two singles are off The Crowd’s upcoming EP, “Piece of Mind” and they feature a transportive mix of indie vocals and orchestral instrumentals to gorgeous effect. The EP as a whole is rooted in warm and layered vocal harmonies that build to a crescendo in each track. You can here how the two producers have taken inspiration from acts like Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes, M83, and MGMT.

The duo is made up of Caye and Alec Joseph — Caye a songwriter and vocalist with an evocative falsetto and a gift for melodic improvisation; AJ a producer and sound designer who has worked on immersive exhibitions and campaigns for brands such as Star Wars, Universal Studios, and Discover.

“We’ve been close friends for years and we were always nervous to make music together,” says Caye when talking about the new project. “The more we started working together, though, the more we realized we complemented each other perfectly.”

The latest single to be teased off the EP is called “Road 415” and it was inspired by the beauty of Yosemite national park. “When we created ‘Road 415,’ we wanted to sonically paint the view we were looking at in Yosemite.”
