Your LoFix #15 – jazz inspired

Welcome to The LoFix, a column to share some LoFi & Chill Hop that I’ve recently discovered and love. Giving you that fix of chill; something we all need regularly. And if you’re feeling the tracks, do share them with your friends.

In the fifteenth edition of the series I’ve picked some of the finest smooth jazzy productions that have been inspired by the speakeasy club era.

Kicking off the series with something upbeat and one I enjoy on my early morning commutes to get me in that good mood for the day ahead, close your eyes and loose yourself in the brilliantly fast flowing piano that Erwin Do & J Fletch have brought to our ears. No need for a break down or slow parts to kill the groove, they keep the energy through the Subway Station single and is the only way to start the day. This isn’t the first time the artists have collaborated together which clearly shows in their synergy with this track and others, be sure to check out their Jazz Hands track which I know you’ll love.

Cruising with my Windows Down to Calvin Bennett‘s new single that dropped last week and has been on repeat since. The upbeat groove kicks straight in with the smooth guitar licks and the subtle but effective vocal sample that brightens the song beautifully. The guitar goes off on a fusion tangent that showcases the Australian artists incredible talent on the 6 stringed instrument, bringing it back to the catchy lick and chords at the end to round off the track nicely.

Go for a Cozy Coffee with Slo Five and Kicker Records with their laid back jazz groove. The piano take centre stage through out the beat with subtle sounds coming along for the ride, keeping it interesting with horn and guitar additions. I could happily be sitting in a cocktail bar right now with this in the background… giving us that dusty vibe of jazz and straight out of Hamburg, Slo Five has delivered a constant flow of solid material so if you’re a fan of this be sure to check out his music!

The multi-instrumentalist Jazz Joy gifted us with Aberrances back in 2023 and I’ve been loving it ever since, combining the jazzy lead sounds with a boom bap beat that hits right. For me, this is where the golden age of hiphop meets jazz and mixing the two together with speakeasy & rap vocal samples that the artist has placed perfectly to break up the single and keep it fresh. It’s been a while since I’ve heard anything new from the artist and patiently waiting to hear his next jazzy tune!

As soon as I heard the track I knew this was true love with it’s well balanced instrumental, a very natural sounding song that you could imagine an in late night jazz bar or club. When I hear music like this I wish I had a band who could replicate it live so I can admire the level of talent that comes from each instrumental, especially with the smooth piano lead that XXIII has created. ‘This Is True Love’ is taken from the artist’s Viaggio Emotivo EP that features five unique jazz productions.
