Zach Berns finds the balance between jazz and house
Zachary Berns (aka zbeeez) is the drummer and producer that is part of a new generation of NYC artists redefining the boundaries of house and jazz. By merging jazz lineage with underground electronic production, Berns has carved out a distinctive space that is both rooted in tradition and forward-looking.
For his latest EP, “Canvas/Rendezvous” Zach creates a pair of tracks that don’t announce themselves so much as unfold. “Canvas” is less about what it is and more about what it allows. It’s a study in negative space… a reminder that groove doesn’t need density to feel alive. “Rendezvous” doesn’t expand the palette, it deepens it. Same language, but spoken more directly. A little less abstract, a little more felt.
