Starya is back with a classic 303 bassline that is dripping with heat and hedonism

LA-based producer and vocalist Starya is back with a brand new single, and it’s a straight-up warehouse heater. “Smack It” is equal parts playful and punch — a track that flirts with pop sensibility while keeping its feet firmly planted in the rave halls. I just love how she is bringing back acid house but leaning into the lower end of the 303.

The intro lulls you in with Starya’s signature sugary vocal hooks before the bassline crashes through like a neon wrecking ball. There’s something distinctly 90s about the way she toys with rhythm here, a nod to early house and rave records, but dressed up in a glossy, hyper-modern finish. It’s sweaty, it’s cheeky, and it’s impossible not to move to.

What makes Starya fun is that she doesn’t take herself too seriously — and you can hear it in the way she chops vocals and winks at the dancefloor with those little glitchy flourishes. It’s rave music that remembers the rave is supposed to be fun.
