Throwback Thursday: De La Soul

De-La-Soul-GI-from-FB

This is like a semi Throwback Thursday post. It’s about De La Soul – a band we all know and love from the 90s – who have just released a never-heard-before track….. so it’s like old but new.

“Sho Nuff” is an unreleased song from the De La Soul Is Dead sessions recorded back in 1991. The release of the song is to celebrate the 25-year anniversary of De La Soul Is Dead, arguably one of their most highly-revered records.

The three rappers from Long Island are on a world tour to celebrate the anniversary at the moment and they’ve launched an online guest book where “mourners” can send their well wishes to the artists. To stream the album for free, all you have to do is sign the guest and add your location. Pretty sweet idea.

The band has set up two memorials around New York City which are related to the creation of the album (the building of the old Rush Management office where they created the concept of the album, and Colliope Recording Studio, where they recorded the songs). So clever!

Of course, all of this clever marketing effort isn’t just to celebrate the anniversary of De La Soul Is Dead. It is also a campaign to promote their new album And The Anonymous Nobody. That’s right… they have a NEW ALBUM coming out! The 17 track album is set to release on August 26th and features Snoop Dogg, Jill Scott, Usher and 2 Chainz. Check out the Pablo Stanley cover art and preorder the album at delasoul.lnk.to/andtheanonymousnobody.
