Gauzy alterna-psych for your winter daydreams

I don’t know what it is about the winter months, but it really does get me in the mood for psychedelic indie rock. And if that’s what you are after, the four-piece Canadian band Meltt has been serving that up for a few years now. In 2019 the band released their debut full-length album called Swim Slowly. It was a diverse twelve-track reflection on love, mortality, time, personal growth and the hazy line between the spiritual and material worlds. And it was delivered on a beautiful blue marbled vinyl.

The band has been praised for their combination of heavy riffs, colorful instrumentation, detail oriented production, and multi-layered song-writing. With an equal love for the blissfully tripped out and the powerfully crunchy corners of music, a Meltt song or show is designed to transport the listener to spaces they have only previously dreamt of.

For their new single, “Blossoms,” the band is trying to harness that feeling you get when you reconnect with nature. “’It’s about making an effort to see the beauty in nature and experiencing the ‘real’ it has to offer,” explains the band. “It shows us an escape from manufactured environments that we are constantly immersed in and accustomed to.”

“Blossoms” is one of four singles that the band have released in the last year and I think it might mean that a new LP is coming soon. #FingersCrossed
