What The Watsky?
So I’m sure most of you have seen or heard of this dude “Watsky” considering that he has over 8 million views on YouTube, but I just came across his shit, and it is mind blowing. If you haven’t, you should watch his video aptly entitled Pale Kid Raps Fast. My buddy Drew put me onto that speed rap video, and I thought what everyone else must have been thinking. “dam that white kid can talk fast. He’s like the micro machines man.” In truth he’s more like Eminem mixed with Michael Cera (mixed with the micro machines man).
Actually, I’m sure the kid isn’t happy with any of those descriptions. And honestly he isn’t that easily categorized. He’s not just a YouTube one hit wonder.
I was intrigued by his fast talking and looked into a couple other videos. Turns out he has a bunch of material, including an LP, a mixtape, a few appearances on stage (including “Russell Simmons presents Def Poetry” on HBO), and a bunch of YouTube videos, including a hilarious remix video about Wikipedia rapped over T.I.’s “What You Know.” Seriously, you have to watch this video. “Blocked in Chinaaaa.”
It doesn’t stop there. He has also produced a video from one of his original tracks, “Who’s Been Loving You?” which looks to be set in his little brothers bedroom and he raps about his life growing up. The video is smart, and the track shows that he can make some original music as well. From spitting like a hundred words a second on YouTube, to conducting an “interview” with Justin Beiber he’s already produced a ton of work, and he’s only twenty something.
