Fun in the Ghetto

The rain clouds cleared out from above New York City this afternoon, and although it is still windy, I felt like it is time for some “feel good” music. I found a hip-hop tracks that are mashed up with something fun to give them a softer edge. Think: a windy spring afternoon in New York City.

K-OS “I Wish I Knew Natalie Portman”
This is a pretty brilliant mash up of Buddy DeSylva and Joseph Meyer’s song “California” and K-OS’s “I Wish I Knew Natalie Portman.” (You are probably more familiar with Phantom Planet’s “California,” from the sound track of the O.C.)

Cam’ron “Spend The Night”
This might not be your traditional “feel good” song… It’s Cam’ron. And he just can’t help being hood. But I think this kind of song is fucking hilarious. With lyrics like: “you clugged up, I’ll be your plumber.” AND “get your mouth wet, you’re the outlet, I got the plug,” how could you not laugh?

Outkast The White Panda “Praise Outkast” mash-up
Outkast is a little more thoughtful then Cam’ron, when it comes to writing:
“what do you want to be when you grow up?” “alive.” but this White Panda mash-up still has that upbeat + hip-hop sound. good track.
