Ten Years

Shazam’d Music From 2017

I know most of the music blogs and magazines are doing “2017 wrap ups” right now but I thought I would do something slightly different. I thought I would select some of my favourite Shazam’d tracks this year. I’m also that guy in the restaurant, bar, house party, shamelessly Shazaming anything that sounds interesting or I haven’t heard before.

I’m warning you, this is a VERY RANDOM mix of music. I’m the type of person who gets excited about hearing a track I’ve never heard before, and so most (not all, but most) of this music is something you’ve probably never heard of before. The mix might not be fore everyone (If you don’t like a track… just hit the next button). But if you are brave enough, come on a journey of discover with me over my favourite Shazam’d tracks from 2017.

Shazam’d Music From 2017

Dec 16th
The Black Ghosts – Water Will Find A Way (Panton & Cyron B Dub)

Dec 15th
Reggie Dokes – Chicago Pimp

Dec 10th
Four Tet – Ocoras
I was trying to prove to someone that a song we were listening to in a bar in Peckham was in fact Four Tet.

Dec 3rd
Jules Venturini: Flying Kites / Keep Me Close / Trace of Smoke
This album was on when I was in Rough Trade records looking for some vinyl Christmas gifts.

Nov 27th
Herb Alpert – Rise (Digital Visions Re-Edit)

Nov 24th
HABIB KOITE -Batoumambe
Heard this on the Charlie Bones morning show on NTS Radio. I get a lot of inspiration from this show. Charlie is more of a philosopher than a DJ. He’s not the best mixer, but he has fantastic eclectic taste in music and he always has an interesting story to tell.

Nov 23th
Calexico – Crystal Frontier (Widescreen)

Nov 22nd
Link Wray – Fire And Brimstone

Nov 19th
Connan Mockasin – Faking Jazz Together

Nov 19th
Kamasi Washington – Truth

Nov 14th
Bruce Springsteen – State Trooper (Trentemøller Mix)
An amazing remix of a classic Bruce Springsteen track. Trentemøller dials up the darkness on an already dark Springsteen single.

Nov 10th
Had the pleasure of going to the Black Axe Mangal pop-up restaurant in November at the Shoreditch House. The food was amazing of course, but what I didn’t know is that the owner was good friends with Action Bronson. As a result, the playlist at the restaurant was a top shelf mix of hip hop, rap and rock n roll. There were so many great tracks to choose from, but here are two I Shazam’d under the table during dinner.
Group Home – Inna Citi Life

Action Bronson – Easy Rider

Nov 7th
Claro Intelecto – Kozyrev’s Mirror

Nov 6th
Warpaint – The Stall

Nov 6th

soundtrack from a classic Bollywood movie, heard in a cab in London

The Stone Roses – Waterfall
Yes, I Shazam’d this track. And no, I don’t know who The Stone Roses are. I’m an American living in London. I missed the craze behind The Stone Roses. Sorry person standing next to me giving me dirty looks when I was holding my phone up to the speaker for this one. I know who The Stone Roses are now.
