An hour of Detroit techno to remember veteran DJ and producer, K-hand

This month we lost the First Lady of Detroit Techno.

Kelli Hand (aka K-hand) died at her home in Detroit, Michigan on August 3rd at the age of 56.

Internationally recognized as the Queen of Techno, Hand was widely credited with opening the door for Black women’s participation in the previously male-dominated techno and electronic music scene. There is no denying Hand’s role as a globetrotting DJ with an impossibly deep catalogue of music. Hand knew how to read a crowd and seduce it, one track after another, until she had the dancefloor at her mercy. Just as well versed in techno (via her Detroit fostering) as she was in House (via her days in Paradise Garage-era New York), Hand offered the best of both worlds.

This Friday, to remember K-hand, we are featuring this fantastic hour-long journey she produced for Moogfest a little over 4 years ago.

Here’s to K-hand
