Cadillac Cruisin’

Last weekend I went out to Shelter Island to escape the heat of the city.

Besides basking in the sun, eating fresh seafood, and watching some fireworks on the 4th, I was fortunate enough to take a ride in a friends newly purchased ’65 Cadillac Convertible. There is no way to explain cruising down back roads and beach streets with a hulking old white Cadillac. The top was down, the air in your hair…. everyone in the car was just speechlessly smiling and looking at each other. This is how you celebrate 4th of July.

The best part about the whole experience was that the car still had the original 8 track player installed. So as we drove 10mph down the strip on Sunset Beach, stopping traffic and turning heads, we had an 8 track playing the oldies but goodies. I’d like to imagine that we looked and sounded like a crew of time traveling hipsters that just flew in from the 60’s in our Cadillac time machine.
